UTICA, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University baseball team hosted UM-Dearborn on Senior Day at Jimmy John's Field and came away with a split, taking game one 6-5 and falling in game two 21-2. The Blue Devils honored their three seniors – Logan Grizzell, Matt Blunk, and Max Cadman – with a ceremonial first pitch tossed by their father's.
Cadman, in his penultimate home game for Lawrence Tech, started the ninth inning comeback in game one with a two-out single to right field. Luke Lambert followed with a single and Eddie Dopkowski scored them with a walk-off hit with a two RBI single to right field to plate Lambert and Cadman to earn the 6-5 win.
Blunk got the senior day start, going 4.1 innings allowing four runs – all earned - on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Kyle Wolter went 2.2 innings allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Ben Schmidt earned his sixth win of the season, going two innings with one strikeout.
In game two, the Blue Devils gave up 12 runs in the third inning as they fell to UM-Dearborn 21-2. Lawrence Tech took the early lead in the game, going up 1-0 on an RBI single from Brian Corbett as John Dyda calmly got through five innings giving up two hits and one run with no strikeouts.
The Wolverines added four runs in the fourth and another four in the fifth to take a 20-1 lead. They added a single run in the seventh before the Blue Devils got their second run of the game in the bottom of the seventh off an RBI double from Nick Allen.
The Blue Devils face Northwestern Ohio on Sunday, April 28 in Lima, Ohio. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
