Kevin Whitman begins his 2nd season with the Blue Devils, after joining the staff for the 2017-18 baseball season as the pitching coach. One of Whitman’s priorities is to help teach and form strong fundamentals for each and every member of the pitching staff. The approach spearheaded by Whitman led to strong improvement and played a key role in the team’s overall success. This hard work and additional further teaching allowed for Whitman to visualize and realize continued improvement during the Blue Devils highly successful season in just their second year as a program.
Prior to joining the Blue Devils Baseball Program, Whitman was, and still is, regarded throughout Southeast Michigan as one of the elite personal training professionals, providing instruction to individual players as well as multiple teams and programs throughout the region, with his ultimate goal being to improve individual skill sets in addition to teaching the overall game and the proper fundamentals that allow a player to grow.
Before entering coaching ranks at the collegiate level, Whitman played Independent Professional Baseball in the Continental Baseball League based in Houston, Texas. In addition, Whitman also spent time in Florida and Arizona pursuing his professional playing career.
Whitman’s college career consisted of first attending The University of Nebraska at Omaha and subsequently he returned to his home state to attend Saginaw Valley State University.
While playing at the collegiate level, Whitman not only spent time on the mound as a pitcher, but he was also able to play position in the field and assist his team as a dual threat. After his college days, Whitman focused soley on pitching in the professional ranks.
Whitman played his high school baseball at Brighton High School for Hall of Fame Head Coach Mark Carrow and now makes his home in Brighton with his wife Julie, their daughter Adeline and their dog, Frank.
