Tom Compian begins his 5th season on the staff at LTU after having spent two seasons at Henry Ford Community College as the Pitching Coach.  Prior to moving into the collegiate ranks, Compian spent seven seasons as the Assistant Head Baseball Coach for the varsity baseball club at Berkley High School, where he mentored the pitching staff while also working with the catchers within the program.  As well, Compian spent a year as the Head JV Baseball Coach at Berkley High School and one season as the Head JV Baseball Coach at Melvindale High School.

Compian has also spent time coaching in the elite summer travel leagues, as he spent two seasons with the highly acclaimed Concealed Security Travel Baseball Program as the Assistant Head Baseball Coach.  In addition to his baseball coaching background, Compian served three years as the Head JV Basketball Coach at New Boston Huron High School, as well also serving as the lead Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach during the same three year time span.  Compian is also a Certified Personal Trainer who works with athletes from a wide variety of sports, assisting them in their overall fitness, conditioning and strength training.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Compian enjoyed a very successful playing career at Spring Arbor University (MI) as both a left-handed starting power pitcher and an outfielder, where he played for two ABCA/NAIA/NCCAA Hall of Fame Coaches in the legendary Hank Burbridge and the more recent inductee Sam Riggleman.

While at SAU, Compian compiled a career record of 30-14 on the mound, while also playing on two teams that advanced to the NCCAA World Series, including national runner up finishes in both 2003 & 2006.

Compian had a truly a special season in 2004 as he was honored as an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American when he compiled an 11-1 record on the mound.  During the same 2004 season, Compian was selected to the All-WHAC Conference Team as a Pitcher and also selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American, as well as being selected to both the NAIA and NCCAA All-Region Teams.

In 2006, Compian had another memorable season as he was named to the All-MCC Conference Team as a Starting Pitcher, while also being named to both the All-Region Teams for the NAIA and NCCAA.  In addition, Compian was named an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American pitcher for his work that spring.

Throughout his career, Compian was regarded as the ace of the SAU Pitching Staff and he received multiple selections as both the WHAC and MCC Pitcher of the Week.  During a stunning 2003 season, Compian was on the mound and received the win for leading his club to victories over four nationally ranked opponents.

Compian was a 4-year varsity starter for Taylor Light & Life High Schools where he accumulated a career record of 20-1 on the mound.  

In addition, Compian accumulated a variety of honors and awards.  Among the recognitions he received were: All-State Honorable Mention in 2001, All-Catholic League 2000 & 2001, All-League 2000 & 2001, All-Downriver Dream Team 2001, All-Region 2001, All-District in 2000 & 2001.  Compian was also an All-Catholic League, All-League, All-State and All-Downriver selection in both Basketball and Football.                              

Compian holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from Spring Arbor University and he is currently an Instructor and Personal Trainer at a local training academy in the downriver area.  Compian currently resides in Allen Park, MI with his wife Hily and has two children.
