Football Manufactures 65-0 Victory at the Factory over EMU Club

YPSILANTI, Michigan – The Lawrence Technological University football program won a program-record fourth-straight contest, defeating the club team from Eastern Michigan University, 65-0. The Blue Devils, for the second-consecutive week, scored on all three sides of the ball.

Lawrence Tech (4-0) set a new program record not just for consecutive wins, but for points in a single game. The Duvendeck-led Blue Devils have broken the 1941 squad's mark of 47 points on three occasions this season – 53 points vs. Oakland on September 1, 62 points vs. Pittsburgh (club) on September 15, 65 points at EMU (club) on September 22.

LTU's defense scored its fourth touchdown of the season as defensive back Miles Young(FR/Ypsilanti, MI) scooped up a loose ball that the Eagles' (2-1) running back couldn't handle from the exchange from 23-yards out. Special Teams found the end zone once again this season, this time off a blocked punt. Linebacker Danny Macks broke through the line to knock the ball down off the punter's foot. Defensive end Wallace Tagata (FR/Oxnard, CA) finally fell on the ball that bounced between Blue Devils in the end zone.

The Blue and White held Eastern Michigan (club) to 68 total yards – marking the third time this year LTU has held an opponent to less than 100 yards of total offense. The Eagles only mustered 19 yards on the ground. Lawrence Tech finished the day with 293 yards of offense, gaining on average 11.7 yards per play. EMU fumbled the ball seven times, losing possession on three loose balls.

Quarterback Tyler Kulka (FR/Clinton Township, MI) was a perfect 6-of-6 for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Kulka has 12 touchdown passes on the year with no interceptions. Tanner Jeska (FR/Monroe, MI) took over under center during the second half, connecting on 2-of-2 with a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown.

LTU had four different ball carriers break the plane on the afternoon. Tanner Foley (FR/Sebawing, MI) led all rushers with 77 yards and a touchdown. Ahmad Sabbagh (FR/Dearborn Heights, MI) went for 37 yards on five carries and a score. Mekai Otero (FR/Orlando, FL) and Jeska both found the end zone to round out the Blue Devils ground attack.

Terrel Cunningham (FR/Northsville, MI) led the Flight Crew with 84 yards – he had a long of 61 – and a touchdown. Matthew Elrod (FR/Livonia, MI) and Kendyl Williams (FR/Lantana, FL) each tallied a touchdown catch. CJ Thompson (FR/Alma, MI) had 31 yards and two catches, while Williams' scoring play went for 29 yards.

Linebacker Danny Macks had a game-high 9 tackles, highlighted by 3 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Macks' 9 tackles is a team-high for the season. Defensive end Tommy Larson (FR/Whitelake, MI) anchored the Legion of Doom with 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Larson finished the day with three tackles. Twelve Blue Devils had multiple tackles for loss. LTU had a season-high seven sacks.

Lawrence Tech scored on its opening possession, going 52 yards in just two plays. After just a three-yard rush, Foley took the second play from scrimmage 49 yards to pay dirt.

On the ensuing possession for Eastern Michigan (club), the Eagles fumbled in their backfield on play one, recovered the ball, then were tackled in the end zone by the combination of Larson and Ryan Crane (FR/Reading, PA) for safety.

The Blue Devils blew the game open in the second quarter, posting 20 points in the second frame. The opening of the floodgates began with a 15-yard strike to CJ Thompson, then a 61-yard catch and run by Cunningham. Otero polished the drive off with a five-yard touchdown scamper.

Next offensive possession, LTU needed just two plays to find the end zone. Otero ran for 10 yards to setup a 29-yard score from Williams. Williams took the pass from Kulka, made two defenders miss on the sideline and ran in for six.

Cunningham's touchdown reception came in the final moments of the first half. The drive started with a five-yard run by Sabbagh. Kulka found Thompson for another play of 15-plus yards and then hit Cunningham in stride for a 23-yard strike.

Macks' blocked punt, recovered by Tagata, opened the second-half scoring. A safety, followed by score from Sabbagh and Young's 23-yard scoop-n-score put the Blue Devils up 51-0.

Jeska highlighted the fourth quarter. With favorable starting position in EMU territory, Jeska found James Cartwright III (FR/Oakland Park, FL) for a quick two yards. Foley took off for 12 yards to setup a 7-yard scoring play from Jeska to Elrod.

Wide Receiver Spencer Iaquinto (FR/Whitmore Lake, MI) saw reps returning punts, running one back 36 yards to the Eastern Michigan 1-yard line. Jeska rounded out the day's scoring with a play-action, bootleg keeper.
