SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University football team fell to No. 16 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) 59-20 on Saturday at Blue Devils Stadium.
Lawrence Tech (1-7, 0-4) scored their first touchdown of the day on a 72-yard catch from Tyler Kulka to Derrick Hinton Jr. to cut the lead to 21-6. The Cougars had jumped out to a 21-0 lead to start the game. Kulka finished the day with 281 passing yards and two touchdowns while Hinton went for 146 yards and one touchdown.
Saint Francis (6-2, 3-2) held a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 42-6. The Blue Devils' Kulka hit Nick Spohn for a 27-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 42-13 with 6:04 left in the first half.
In the second half, the Blue Devils Mekai Otero scored on a 5-yard rush to make it a 59-20 game with 3:05 remaining in the game. The Cougars added three touchdowns over the final two quarters to seal the win.
Lawrence Tech finished the game with 335 total yards including 281 passing yards and 54 rushing yards. Derrick Hinton Jr. finished with a career high 146 receiving yards and one touchdown while Otero rushed for 60 yards on 22 carries. Mitch Waters led the defense with 11 total tackles including seven solo tackles and two tackles for a loss. Christian Clark-Broaden added four solo tackles.
The Cougars were led by Matt Crable with 299 passing yards and four touchdowns while Dan Ricksy led the receiving corp with 159 yards and four touchdowns. Tony Johnson led the rushing attack for USF, going for 72 yards on six carries. Martel Williams added 61 yards on eight rushes and one touchdown.
The Blue Devils host No. 15 Concordia (Mich.) University – Ann Arbor on Saturday, November 9 at Blue Devils Stadium. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m.
