CENTERVILLE, Ohio—The (No. 2) Lawrence Technological University men's bowling team competed this past weekend in the Orange and Black Classic. This two day event ran from Oct. 12-Oct. 13. At the end of the tournament, the Blue Devils found themselves in 2nd place out of 33 teams: falling to Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University in the championship round of bracket play.
In five team games, the Blue Devils combined for a total score of 5,211. This total was good enough for 3rd in this round of the tournament. The teams would then go on to play 16 Baker games. The Blue Devil's total for the Baker games was 3,349. That was the 3rd highest among all teams. With a total of 8,560 the Blue Devils entered bracket play as the No. 2 seed behind Notre Dame College. The Blue Devils knocked off Robert Morris (Penn.) University in the first round. In the semifinal round, they went up against Wright State (Ohio) University and won to advance to the championship. Here, the Blue Devils fell to Lincoln Memorial University, and earned their second place finish.
Kyle McGrath had the best finish for the Blue Devils as an individual. McGrath finished 6th overall out of all of the competing bowlers, junior varsity and varsity. His five game average for the weekend was 224.2 and his single game high this tournament was a 267. Chase Kaufman and Cody Johnston also finished in the top 20; Kaufman finished 14th and Johnston 17th
The Blue Devils will be back in action next weekend on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20. They will be competing in the Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Ind.
