SYLVANIA, Ohio – The (RV) Lawrence Technological University men's lacrosse team pulled off a 8-7 overtime win over NO. 8 Lourdes University at the Gray Wolves home field on Wednesday night. Followed up with five different Blue Devils notching goals and 12 saves, the Blue Devils claim this win as their first win in the WHAC.
The Blue Devils (4-4, 1-1) were led by the three points of Brendan Oles from two goals and one assist. Damian Hudson and Jacob Flood also grabbed two points while Nik Kubik went 11-17 on the faceoffs. Joseph Rosales had six ground balls while Joel Trent secured the win with 12 saves.
Lawrence Tech beat the Gray Wolves (5-2, 1-1) in ground balls with 26 to Lourdes 23, winning 12 faceoffs out of 19. However, the late game surge and 19 turnovers gave Lourdes the opportunity to catch back up and force the game into overtime.
Lawrence Tech started off with two quick goals before Lourdes notched their first. LTU then took the opportunity on a man up situation and got the ball past the Gray Wolves, moving into the second quarter up 3-1.
The second quarter only saw one goal, with each team holding each other at bay, but Jacob Flood was the lone player to find the back of the net.
The third was also low scoring, with Lawrence Tech scoring twice, behind Flood again and Damian Hudson. While they held Lourdes, the Blue Devils controlled the ball, outshooting them 15-5.
The fourth quarter is where Lourdes took control and caught back up to the Blue Devils, going on to score four in a row. Lawrence Tech was able to get one in by the stick of Brendan Oles, holding their lead 7-5. However, two goals under the minute mark were netted by Lourdes, tying the game up 7-7 and forcing the Blue Devils into overtime.
Overtime went quickly, with only one shot getting released and going in. It started at the face off with a win from Nik Kubik. Then, two minutes into the overtime, Damian Hudson scored the game winner in sudden death, securing the 8-7 win for Lawrence Tech.
