FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A big week is ahead for the Lawrence Technological University men's lacrosse team as they enter post season with match against Lourdes University (Ohio) in the first round of WHAC conference playoffs.
After a huge 14-11 upset of the NO. 2 Madonna University to end their regular season, the Blue Devils received a huge three seed in the WHAC tournament. This causes them to host the sixth seed, Lourdes University, at home on Tuesday, April 23rd at home at 5 p.m. The winner of such game will then go on to play the two seed Aquinas College at Aquinas on Thursday, April 25th. (6) Aquinas and (3) Indiana Tech tied for the regular season title for the WHAC.
The last time Lawrence Tech and the Gray Wolves of Lourdes faced each other was in late March where the Blue Devils pulled off an 8-7 overtime win that started off a faceoff from Nik Kubik and won by the stick of Damian Hudson. Lawrence Tech controlled most of the game, until a late fourth quarter six goal surge came from the Gray Wolves to tie the game 7-7 after LTU led 6-1 for the majority of the game.
Several Blue Devils have had an outstanding season, with Brendan Oles leading the team in goals with 35, coming in at 13th in the NAIA for goals. Maveric Muscat leads the team with 24 assists, holding the 11th spot in the nation for assists and is 13th in the nation for assists per game with average of 1.85. Joel Trent has 117 saves this season, ranking 14th in the nation as a goalie for saves. As a team, Lawrence Tech ranks third in the nation for total shots with 578 this season and fifth for goals with 171.
Lourdes (7-6, 3-5) has a strong line upcoming for the first round game for Tuesday, including a strong attackman Nick Johnson who is 13th in the nation for goals along with Oles with 35. Their goalie, Tyler Hart, has 89 saves this season. Lourdes had several close games this season, including a 13-12 loss to Madonna and a 9-6 loss to Indiana Tech.
