FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Advancing onto the WHAC Tournament Semifinals, the Lawrence Technological University men's lacrosse team beat Lourdes University at home 13-9 on April 23rd in the conference quarter finals. Next up is a trip to Aquinas College, the two seed in the tournament, on April 25th, in the semifinals which is set to start at 7 p.m.
Leading the Blue Devils offensively was the stick of Jacob Flood, Justin Light, Maveric Muscat and Dylan Couture. Flood had four goals and an assist, three groundballs and one caused turnover on the night. Maveric Muscat, while only grabbing one goal, had six assists. Justin Light scored four times and Dylan Couture found the back of the net three.
Wyatt Nedball shut down the attacks from Lourdes, including three caused turnovers and six ground balls. With him was Joseph Rosales who had six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Off the face off, Nik Kubik grabbed three ground balls and went 16-25. Joel Trent had ten saves and four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lawrence Tech and Lourdes kept the game interesting for the first two quarter with the game hold single goal lead throughout. Despite 28 shots from the Blue Devils compared to the eight from the Gray Wolves in the first half, the gray wolf goalie made a crucial seven saves, ending the half with several last minute saves, yet down 7-5.
However, outscoring the Gray Wolves by one in each period was enough for the Blue Devils to secure their win. The third period saw the teams have an answer to each other's goals, including goals from Flood fed by Brendan Mullins, an Brendan Oles goal and a goal from Light fed from Muscat. Going 10-7 into the fourth quarter, Lawrence Tech went on to score three in a row the exact same way; a feed from a cutting from x Maveric Msucat with a quick pass to Flood and past the Gray Wolf goalie. While Lourdes kept the Blue Devils at bay for the next 10 minutes, Lourdes tried to sprint to the end of the game with two quick goals in the final minutes of the game, yet it was not enough for them to move on.
Lawrence Tech, moving into the WHAC semifinals, will play two seeded (6) Aquinas (10-3, 7-1) at the Saints home on Thursday, April 25th. The last time these two teams met, the Blue Devils fell by a single goal, 14-13, in late March.
