SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team is picked to finish second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in 2019 as they received a pair of first-place votes, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils enter 2019 as the reigning WHAC Tournament Champions.
"Honored to be 2nd but it's nice to look at and pretty to see but means nothing," Lawrence Tech Head Coach Will Dyer said. "We've got to go out and earn it!"
The top team, as chosen by the WHAC coaches, is Madonna (Mich.) University with 10 first-place votes and 142 total points. Madonna finished the 2018 season in the NAIA National Championship Semifinal game. Lawrence Tech, 2018 WHAC Tournament Champions, followed with 130 points with University of Northwestern Ohio coming in third with 119 points. Indiana Tech, WHAC Tournament Runner-Ups, are picked fourth with 113 points.
Coming in at number five is Cornerstone (Mich.) University with 82 points followed by Concordia (Mich.) University – Ann Arbor with 78 points, Aquinas (Mich.) College with 61 points, Siena Heights (Mich.) University with 60 points, Cleary (Mich.) University with 50 points, Lourdes (Ohio) University with 42 points, UM-Dearborn with 37 points, and Rochester (Mich.) College with 22 points.
The Blue Devils open up 2019 at Martin Methodist on Saturday, August 24 with their conference opener on September 28 at top ranked Madonna starting at 2 p.m.
