HUNTINGTON, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's soccer team (0-5) lost a heart breaker on the road to the hands of the Foresters of Huntington (Ind.) University (5-1-1). 90 minutes was not enough to decide a winner in this match; The Foresters found the back of the net with just under three minutes left in overtime. This gave Huntington University the 2-1 victory over the Blue Devils.
The first 45 minutes of this match saw zero goals scored, as both teams struggled to generate any real scoring chances. LTU was able to get three shots on goal, which was two more than the one shot on goal recorded by HU.
The second half saw each team find the back of the net once. LTU struck first in this contest when Cesar Nunez scored his first goal of the season in the 57th minute on a penalty kick. LTU's one goal lead lasted until the 62nd minute when Huntington's leading goal scorer, Caleb Sexton, got his third goal of the season. This would be all the scoring for the second half and into overtime the two teams went.
Overtime saw Huntington score the game winner in the 98th minute on a penalty kick.
It was a tough loss for LTU today, but Head Coach Will Dyer was proud of the way his guys played. He noted that he saw his guys "play their hearts out." The Blue Devils drop to 0-5 on the year but have continued to improve week and will continue to work hard to prepare for their next opponent.
Next up for the LTU Blue Devils will be a trip to Taylor (Ind.) University (4-2-2) for a matchup vs. the Trojans. The Blue Devils will be looking to get their first victory of the season when the match begins at 7:00pm EDT on Friday, September 20th.
