UPLAND, Ind.—The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's soccer team (1-5) picked up their first win of the season on the road vs. Taylor University (Ind.) (4-3-2) by a score of 2-0. The Blue Devils were firing on all cylinders this evening; the offense tallied a total of 20 shots with seven of them being on goal. The defense for LTU allowed two shots and neither of these shots were on goal. It was a great night for the Blue Devils, and will be entering conference play after getting their first win.
The first half saw the Blue Devils get out to a one goal lead in the 39th minute when Nico Rodriguez found the back of the net. Cesar Nunez and Alvaro Merino were each credited with an assist each on the goal. This was all the scoring in the first half, and the Blue Devils entered the break with a 1-0 lead. The offense for the Blue Devils was able to get off 14 shots and six of them being on goal, but the defense of the Blue Devils was the story in the first half. They did not allow a single shot on goal by the Trojans in the 45 minute opening half.
The offense of LTU continued to dominate in the second half. LTU had six shots and three of these shots were on goal in the second of half. Mario Colella scored LTU's second goal of the night in the 59th minute. This was all the scoring for the night and gave the Blue Devils the 2-0 victory.
Head Coach Will Dyer had this to say about the match tonight, "Well deserved win for us against a tough opponent. The boys have been trusting the process and it finally paid off. Now we focus on Madonna (Mich.)."
The Blue Devils will be off for the next 8 days, and will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th. It will be another road game for the team as they will be traveling to Madonna University (Mich.) to open up conference play. The game is set to begin at 2:00pm EDT.
