SOUTHFIELD, Mich.—The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team (2-6, 1-1) outscored conference opponent Mich.-Dearborn (2-4, 1-1), 3-1, to earn a victory on a cold and rainy night at Blue Devil Stadium. It was a complete game by the Blue Devils, outplayed the Wolverines in every facet of the game.
With the rain lightly falling and a slight breeze, the temperature at game time was not ideal. This did not keep the Blue Devils from getting out to a two goal lead in the first half. Striking first for the Blue Devils was Kevin Wright in the 26th minute off of a nice corner kick from Sean Humphries. It would then be another 10 minutes until the Blue Devils would capitalize on another scoring opportunity. Enric Miquel scored in his second straight match when, he found the back of the net in the 36th minute. This gave the Blue Devils a comfortable lead heading into the break.
When both teams came out for the second half, the rain was still coming down at a steady pace. Skipping ahead to the 62nd minute, Mich.-Dearborn found themselves on the end of a lucky break as a header from a Wolverine deflected off of a Blue Devil defender and found its' way into the back of the net. This pulled the Wolverines within one. The score did not remain 2-1 for very long as, Alvaro Merino Received a great pass from Nico Rodriguez in the 64th minute to give the Blue Devils a 3-1 lead. That is how the game ended, and the Blue Devils got a much needed win in less than ideal playing conditions.
Head Coach Will Dyer had this to say about his team after the match, "The boys played well. We focused on our play and continued to take what we do in training and see it translate on the field. Dearborn is a tough team that didn't' give up."
Next up for the Blue Devils will be another home conference matchup. The Cardinals of Concordia (Mich.) University Ann Arbor will be coming to Blue Devil stadium on Saturday, October 5th. Kickoff is set for 4:30pm.
