Blue Devils Improve to 2-1 in Conference play as Wright's Two Goals Lift Blue Devils Over the Cardinals

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.—The Lawrence Technological University men's soccer team (3-6, 2-1) finds themselves moving in the right direction after winning in a Saturday afternoon contest vs. the visiting Cardinals of Concordia-Ann Arbor (3-7, 1-2) . The Blue Devils jumped out an early lead, and netted an insurance goal in the second half to seal the victory by a score of 2-0. It was a picture perfect fall day at Blue Devils Stadium, and the Blue Devils came out ready to play.

It took less than 30 seconds for the Blue Devils to get on the board, senior Kevin Wright scored his second goal of the season off a perfectly delivered ball from Nico Rodriguez to give the Blue Devils the early advantage. The story of the first half, and the entire game, was the intensity of the Blue Devil offense. They controlled the ball the entire half, which resulted in seven shots for the Blue Devils, and zero shots for the Cardinals.

The second half saw the Blue Devils continue putting pressure on the defense of the Cardinals. In total, they were able to get off 14 more shots but none more important than a shot on goal in the 74th minute. Juan Jaramillo placed a corner kick right where Kevin Wright needed it to be to score his second goal of the night and his third of the season. With a 2-0, the Blue Devils cruised to their second win in as many matches.

Head Coach Will Dyer noted that the key to winning today's match was that, "(We) focused on us, kept doing the little things that we needed to. We need to continue being technically smarter and cleaner when we have and don't have the ball."

Wright now has three goals in the last two games, and Dyer is happy to see Wright playing the way he is capable of, "He is a coach's dream of a player; a workhorse. Does everything you ask and more. It has been an honor having him on this team, and it is crazy to think this is his last year."

The Blue Devils will be back in action on October 9th. It will be a Wednesday night matchup vs. Aquinas (Mich.) College (2-4-4, 1-1-1). The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
