Blue Devils Travel to Cornerstone (Mich.) University for Last Regular Season Road Match of the Season

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.—The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team (6-9, 5-4) will be on the road Wednesday, October 30th for a match vs. the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone (Mich.) University (2-12-2, 1-7-1). With only two matches remaining in conference play, the Blue Devils need to leave Grand Rapids, Mich. with a victory vs. a struggling Cornerstone team.

The Blue Devils currently hold sole possession of 4th place in the WHAC, with a .5 game lead over Cleary (Mich.) University. If the Blue Devils can win their match vs. Cornerstone, they give themselves a chance to host a home playoff game at Blue Devil Stadium.

Entering the Wednesday night match vs. the Golden Eagles, the Blue Devils are coming off an emotional win over Lourdes (Ohio) University. On a rainy Saturday night, the Blue Devils and Gray Wolves battled for nearly 104 minutes of soccer. Ending the night was the Blue Devils leading goal scorer, Kevin Wright. Wright scored his 7th goal of the season off a pass from Juan Jaramillo, who is tied for the team lead in assists with four. Max Jewett posted his 4th shutout of the season vs. the Gray Wolves, saving the two shots on goal taken by the opponents.

The Golden Eagles have not had the season they were hoping for, and will be attempting to play the role of spoiler when the Blue Devils come to town. Over their last five matches, the Golden Eagles are 1-3-1 and have been outscored 2-7. There are three players on the Cornerstone squad who have multiple goals on the season, and their leading shot taker is Christian Galloway. If the Golden Eagles want to have a shot and stunning the Blue Devils, they will need to find a way to get their offense going.

When the two teams squared off in the 2018 season, the Blue Devils forced overtime scoring in the 84th minute to make the match 1-1. The Blue Devils would go on to win the match when Alvaro Garcia scored in the 96th minute. This year, the Blue Devils would like to have the same result, but maybe not in the same dramatic fashion. The two teams will kick off their 2019 regular season match at 7:00pm in Grand Rapids, Mich.
