SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to the University of Northwestern Ohio in the last match of the conference regular season at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.
After doubles action, Lawrence Tech (14-8, 3-2) had a three-point deficit as Northwestern Ohio (11-10, 5-0) took all three flights. At court-three, Robert Saitov and Viktor Kolesnychenko fell 8-2 to David Ayguavives and Santiago Ortiz. Lukas Obel and Alejo Godall-Tintore dropped an 8-4 decision to Lars Kaplusch and Duarte Teixeira at second flight. Despite having a close set, the duo of Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal lost 9-7 to Artur Culicovschi and Marcos Salazar at court-one.
In singles action, Northwestern Ohio sealed the victory with wins over Godall-Tintore (6-0, 6-0) and Obel (6-1, 6-0) at fourth and six flights.
The Blue Devils finished the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season seeded in third place. For the first round of the WHAC Tournament, LTU will host No. 6 Concordia (Mich.) University-Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 20 at 6 p.m. in the Franklin Athletic Club. The winner of this matchup will face off with second-seeded Indiana Tech in the semifinals on Wednesday, April 24.
