Sergio Vidal Lopez comes from Madrid, Spain. He has always been involved in sports. At 14, he picked up his first tennis racquet and fell in love with the sport. In 2006/2007 he attended 9th grade at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, earning the “Tommy Haas Award” honoring the “Most Improved Player of the Year”.
He went back to Spain after 9th grade, completing his last 2 years of High School at the International School of Vilamoura. During this time, he also achieved #32 in the Portuguese Tennis Rankings, U18.
After high school graduation, Sergio began his studies in Mechanical Engineering at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.
In August 2014, he transferred to Lawrence Technological University, recruited by Coach Stephen Behmlander. Sergio was part of the first LTU Men’s Tennis Team, making school history along with teammates. He led the team and played at the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions at Lawrence Tech. During this time he earned All-WHAC recognition, as well as several “WHAC Player of Week” nominations.
In his final season as a competing Blue Devil, he was instrumental in the team qualifying for its first ever, NAIA National Championship Tournament in Mobile, Al.
Sergio’s career W/L record at Lawrence Tech is 73-29.
He was hired as the Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach position. In his 1st season as an Assistant, the team reached the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the 2nd consecutive year.
Sergio is continuing his education at Lawrence Tech as a Graduate Student in Mechanical Engineering with concentration on Thermafluids.
