SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University men's cross country team competed at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. on Friday morning, September 14 in hot and humid conditions.
From a complete turnaround in weather, their first meet being cold and muddy to their most recent being very hot and muggy, the LTU men's team ran in the college division 8k. Malik Jordan(SR/Wayne, Mich.) finished first out of the rest of his squad, with a time of 27:58 and coming in 105th out of 250 other runners. Following him was John Bowen II (JR/Williamston, Mich.) coming in at 158th place with a time of 29:12. Alexander Towianski (SO/Sterling Heights, Mich.) was 177th with a time of 29:51 and Ian Lamphear (FR/Utica, Mich.) was 198th finishing the race in 30:31.
Coach Eric Green is waiting to display what he knows his team can really do, but are repeatedly being restrained by bad weather on race days, "We just can't seem to get a break this season with the weather conditions on race days. We had nice training weather this week and did some great hard workouts but it seemed to not help us today in the race. "However, despite the bad weather, there are a few positives, "The bright spot in the race was continuing to see the development of our runners packing up in the race and the freshman getting more race experience. Our top 5 from last week were still top 5 but in a different order with Malik leading the way this week."
The team heads down to Louisville, Ky. to run at the Louisville Classic on September 29.
