The Lawrence Technological University cross country teams travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., to participate in the 12th annual Great Lakes Invitational Hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) on October 26th at Riverside Park, which is the home of the WHAC Conference Championship course.
For the men, Freshman Nolan McGahan will be running in the Maroon division race, which will feature 20 teams ranked in the top 30 nationally for the NAIA. The rest of the guys team will be participating in the white division race. "With how we placed as a team last week at Oberlin, we should have a chance to be top three in the white division minus Nolan" Coach Eric Green said, "We did not have Joshua Adair or Ethan Rozanski last week at Oberlin and they have been in the top five for us this season, so the coaches decided to put Nolan in the competitive race to help him continue the experience of racing against some of the top runners in the nation. This also will better his placing time wise with some of the conference runners ranked ahead of him on the conference course." Nolan McGahan won the first player of the week in the WHAC for LTU this year, includign his first of the season.
The lady Blue Devils will be racing in the white division race lead by Darbey Johnson who will have a chance to go for the freshman record at the 5k distance held by Marissa Bradley 19:58 in 2015. Johnson won WHAC player of the week last week, her first honor of her career. She also has a chance to go for the school record of 19:32 run by graduate Bradley in 2017. "We decided to keep Darbey in the white division race and not the competitive Maroon. She has a chance to challenge for the top spot in the race which should help her go for both the 5k records. I also look forward to see what improvements will be run by Emily Gandolfi, Michelle Meister and Kelsey Catania in the 5k distance for the year."
