SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team faces off with (RV) University of Rio Grande in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 at noon and 2 p.m. The Blue Devils arrive to the first matchup with a nine-win streak.
Last week, Lawrence Tech (17-1, 0-0) participated in the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. and finished with a 13-1 record.
Through 18 games, the Blue Devils have scored 94 runs and given up 31, and sit second in the nation for earned runs, 1.2. LTU has a 0.29 batting average and a 0.34 on base percentage. The Blue Devil pitchers have left 80 runners on base so far.
Meredith Adams paces the squad with 12 runs and 16 RBIs. Cherilyn Banas and Brittany Wieland have contributed with 11 runs apiece. Sarah Hige has the highest batting average of the team, 0.43, and on-base percentage, 0.52. Banas paces LTU with five stolen bases. Alexa Cherney leads the Blue Devil pitchers with 43 strikeouts, 7.92 per outing. Faith Barden follows Cherney with 24 strikeouts and was named Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 18.
Through 26 games, Rio Grande (17-9, 8-0) has scored 131 runs and allowed 102 with a 0.29 batting average. Kelsey Conkey leads the pitchers with 40 strikeouts, while Michaela Criner paces the Red Storm with a 0.39 batting average and four stolen bases, while Kenzie Cremeens has driven in 22 runners.
