Weekly Preview: Lawrence Tech Faces Off With Four WHAC Foes

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The 25th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team will face off with four Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foes this week. LTU will host Rochester (Mich.) College on Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. On Thursday, April 4, Lawrence Tech will face off with the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Northville High School. The Blue Devils will then travel to Lima, Ohio to play against the University of Northwestern Ohio at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. LTU will then host Concordia (Mich.) University on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Wayne State.

Last week, Lawrence Tech (20-4, 2-2) split a pair of WHAC doubleheaders against Madonna (Mich.) University and Cleary (Mich.) University. The Blue Devils defeated the Crusaders 6-2 in the first game and fell 4-2 in the second. LTU dropped an 8-3 decision against the Cougars in the first game and shutout Cleary in the second, 8-0.

The Blue Devils have scored 116 runs and surrendered 50, and rank seventh in the NAIA for earned run average, 1.480. Lawrence Tech has a 0.284 batting average and a 0.329 on-base percentage. The Blue Devil pitchers have sat down 144 batters and shutout seven opponents thus far.

Meredith Adams leads the squad with 18 runs and 18 RBIs, while Sarah Hige has a batting average of 0.412 and a 0.492 on-base percentage. Cherilyn Banas has stolen six bases, averaging 0.316 per outing. Alexa Cherney paces the WHAC with 8.80 strikeouts per game. Faith Barden, Brittney Bult, and Sydney Schultz make the conference top three for opponent batting average with 0.167, 0.193, and 0.221, respectively.

The statistics of Rochester's (7-15, 2-2) last game are not available yet. However, through its first 21 games of the season, RC had scored 35 runs and allowed 96. The Warriors had a 0.235 batting average and a 0.301 on-base percentage. Mackenzie Muncy led the squad with 14 hits and six RBIs, while Taylor Foy and Brittney Resigner paced the pitchers with nine strikeouts apiece.

Through 20 games, Michigan (12-8, 2-0) has a 0.288 batting average with a 0.359 on-base percentage. The Wolverines have made 124 runs and received 96. Madelin Skene leads the team with a 0.400 batting average and 18 RBIs. Ashlynn Henderson has sat down 26 batters over 11 games played.

Northwestern Ohio (13-5, 3-1) will face off with Siena Heights (Mich.) University prior to the matchup against the Blue Devils. The Racers currently have a three-win streak. UNOH ranks second in the WHAC for batting average, 0.370, and has a 0.408 on-base percentage. The Racers have scored 143 runs and allowed 96. Grace Jackson paces the team with a 0.516 batting average and 22 RBIs. Aubrey Brunst paces the pitchers with 30 strikeouts in 12 games.

Concordia's (7-15, 2-2) last game statistics are not available yet. The Cardinals had scored 119 runs and allowed 97 over the first 21 games of the season. CUAA had a 0.300 batting average and a 0.348 on-base percentage. Tyffani Bryan paced the Cardinals with 29 hits, while Kali Hill led the squad with 13 RBIs. Lauren Reichel has sat down 54 batters over 15 games played.
