Blue Devils Sweep Racers in WHAC Doubleheader; Host Concordia-AA on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

LIMA, Ohio- The No. 25 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team swept Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, April 6 at the Racer Softball Field, winning 5-4 in eight innings and 2-0.

Alexa Cherney toed the rubber for the eight innings of game one, pitching the whole game to earn her eighth win of the season. Cherney sat down 10 of the 30 batters she faced and allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk.

Lawrence Tech (24-5-1, 6-3-1) got things started in the first inning when Sarah Hige scored an unearned run to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. The University of Northwestern Ohio (13-9, 3-5) answered in the third inning with two runs.

In the top of the fourth inning, Kennedy Emmons tied the game, 2-2, with an unearned run off an RBI by Hige. The Racers struck back in the bottom of the inning with a homer to reclaim the lead and a run off a single to the center field to stretch the lead to two runs.

Andra Malburg tied the game with her first home run of the season down the left field to score Katie Cyster. In the eighth inning, Malburg gave the Blue Devils their third win in program's history over UNOH with a single up the middle to drive Jackie Mattingly in for an unearned run.

Brittney Bult threw a gem against the Racers in the second game, her third thus far this season. The Brampton, Ontario native surrendered one hit and one walk over the seven innings. Bult struck out two of the 21 batters she faced.

The Blue Devils took advantage of their momentum from the previous game and scored both runs in the top of the first inning. Hige opened the scoring off a fielder's choice and Cyster pushed the Blue Devil lead to 2-0 after Emmons flew out to the to center field. Bult shut down the Racers for the rest of the game to secure her seventh win of the year.

Lawrence Tech will be back in action on Sunday, April 7 to face off with Concordia (Mich.) University-Ann Arbor at the Tom Adams Field in Wayne State (Mich.) University. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m.
