The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team fell against the Xavier University (La.) 64-53 on Saturday night. They move to 1-1 for the 2019 season, including an 85-71 win against Point Park.

The first quarter was close for the Blue Devils and the Golden Nuggets, including several fouls for both sides, calling for a low scoring quarter. While the momentum would quicken, each team kept on fighting for possession. Kendall Fisher got two lay ups past the Xaiver team while Danielle Hanson had five points including a clutch three pointer to put the Blue Devils up 13-12 at the end of the first.

Going into the second, it was much of the same, with both teams drawing foul after foul. Xavier came out in the second pushing to stay close the LTU, but the Blue Devils sunk 14 points compared to Xavier's 13. Yet, the Blue Devils exited the first half up by two with a score of 27-25.

Entering the third, the Golden Nuggets took control, going on 25 to LTU's 10.  Xavier dominated the floor, going from down by two to ending the third up 48-39 from the efforts of Caprice Taylor and Nahrie Pierce, who capitalized on both their shots and free throw appertains. Not only this, but the Nuggets dominated from the three point line, gaining their lead.

In the fourth, despite an early surge from Xavier, the Blue Devils continued to fight back, including a three point play from Hanson and two back to back breaking down of the Golden Nugget defense with a three pointer, followed by a LTU shut down of defense and then resulting in a swift lay up from Fisher.

With a 1:45 left to go, the Blue Devils were down 62-53, yet missed two three point opportunities, where the Nuggets continued to grab the rebounds, sealing the fate of LTU and closing the game 64-53 in favor for XULA.

At the end of the game, Danielle Hanson had 17 points on the night, going 6-10 from the field goal range. Kendall Fisher was right behind her with 14 points. Lawrence Tech struggled from the three point range, going 25 % compared to the Golden Nuggets 58.8%, largely due to the Xavier surge in the third.
