BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - Following a back and forth match against the Calvin College Knights, the Lawrence Technological University women's team fell 13-10 and moved to 0-2 this season. Leading the team was Anna Gagnon (JR/Grand Haven, Mich.) once again, collecting four goals and two assists on the night.
Other strong performers included Gabi Larkin (JR/South Lyon, Mich.) who had three goals, an assist, six ground balls and two draw controls. Kaylee Patterson (SO/Grand Blanc, Mich.) also had a solid night with two assists and two goals, and four ground balls. Goalie Dorie Coggin (SO/Hamilton, Ohio) had three ground balls and six saves on the night despite the point blank shots. Lawrence tech kept up with most of the stats against Calvin, but fell in draw controls, only winning 7 of 31.
The game started off with the Blue Devils (0-2) finding the back of the net first with a goal from Gagnon, assisted by Kady Waits (FR/Milford, Mich.). However, Calvin (1-0) responded moments later.Moments after Calvin answered, Anna Gagnon responded for the Blue Devils, fed by Kaylee Patterson. The Knights were right with them 2-2 until back to back goals from from Gabi Larkin, fed by Gagnon, and a goal from Ashley Sherry (SO/Savage, Minn.). Yet, Calvin picked it up and found the back of the net four times before the Blue Devil found the back of the net. Kaylee Patterson scored twice before the first half ended, pushing the team to be down by one in a 7-6 close game.
Anna Gagnon took the second half in her stride as she opened it with a goal in the first minute of the second, fed by Gabi Larkin from behind the goal.While the Knights responded, Gagnon found the back of the net once again with an assist from Ashley Sherrya little over a minute later. The Knights then, were tied with the Blue Devils, stepped up and started finding back to back goals to put past the Lawrence Tech defense. Gabi Larkin put it past the goalie twice more, but it was not enough to keep up with Calvin, falling 13-11.
