Southfield, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team hosts Benedictine College (Kan.) at Birmingham Groves High School on Saturday at 11 a.m. in their last game before heading on the road for a few games down in Florida during spring break.The NO. 6 Blue Devils facing the NO. 3 Ravens (5-0) will be the third ranked opponent they have seen this season.
Several Blue Devils (0-3) will be going into this game with a few national rankings under their belts for a few key players. Dorie Coggin (SO/Hamilton, Ohio) ranks 10th in the NAIA in saves per game at 8.6 and 16 in total saves at 26. Kady Waits (FR/Milford, Mich.) ranks 19th in assists per game with 1.3 while Anna Gagnon (JR/Grand Haven, Mich.) ranks 21st in points per game at four. These three are also the quick leaders going into tomorrow's match. Gagnon leads the team in goals with nine, Waits lead in assists at four, shots at 17 and shots on goal at 15 and Coggin, the lone goalie, has 26 saves.
The Ravens from Kansas come into this game undefeated and a top contender for the national title, including a 16-12 win against the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) early this season. Leading them is Natalie Wechter who has 15 goals this season. However, she is not alone on the attacking side, where four other girls have double digit points.
Following this match-up, the Blue Devils head to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face Keiser University and Ave Maria in the next week, where all three teams have spots on the Top 10 Coaches' Poll.
