Lawrence Tech Falls on Saturday 16-11 to No. 3 Benedictine

Beverly Hills, Mich. - After a tough back and forth match against the Benedictine College Ravens (Kan.), the Lawrence Technological University fell on Saturday night, March 9th 16-11. The Blue Devils now look onward to two games in Florida against NO. 5 Keiser University on March 12th and Ave Marie University on March 16th.

Lawrence Tech was led offensively by Anna Gagnon (JR/Grand Haven, Mich.) with six points from four goals and two assists. Right behind her was Ashley Sherry (SO/Savage, Minn.) with four points with three goals and one assist. Defensively, Dorie Coggin(SO/Hamilton, Ohio) made several key saves, stopping 16 shots in the game. Kady Waits(FR/Milford, Mich.) was all around the field and had five caused turnovers and two assists against the Ravens.

The Blue Devils stuck with the Ravens in ground balls, matching 12 on the field, but LTU's 23 turnovers to BC's 19 was still enough to give Benedictine a leg up during the game. The Raven's also took advantage of the draw, winning 22 of the 29 attempts. While the Ravens out shot the Blue Devils 45 to 19, Lawrence Tech was a lot more accurate while their defense continued to deny Benedictine.

The game started off with Lawrence Tech responding to an early goal from the Ravens, with Sherry scoring with a quick feed from Gagnon. Sherry scored again later on, with an assist from Waits to put LTU up 2-1. However, Benedictine scored four straight goals, forcing Lawrence Tech's hand to respond and play catch up. Sherry was the first to respond, with another feed from Gagnon to move LTU to 4-5. Another stream of back to back goals from the Ravens moved the game to 7-4, however, Teagan Laier, with nine minutes left, was found by Sherry who was behind the net for another goal. Laier scored once more with three minutes to go to put the Blue Devils within one going into half.

The second half started with the team from Kansas pulling to ahead by two, however, the game got more back and forth with Lawrence Tech responding to each shot the ravens put in for the first 15 minutes of the game. The first two came from the stick of Anna Gagnon, where one was assisted by Kady Waits. Then Gabi Larkin (JR/South Lyon, Mich.) added to the mix before the Ravens went on to score six in a row, three of which came off of Blue Devil mistakes. While Lawrence Tech pushed to catch back up with less than five minutes to go with goals from Kaylee Patterson and Anna Gagnon, a seven goal deficit was too much for the Blue Devils to make it up in time.
