FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological University (3-6, 2-0) women's lacrosse team won 17-4 against WHAC opponent Lourdes University (Ohio) Wednesday night following a second half shut out. The team now looks onward to play Rochester College (Mich.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lawrence Tech dominated in every category in their win against the Gray Wolves (4-7, 1-1), including seven different Blue Devils finding the back of the net.
In goal, Dorie Coggin made 11 saves on the night, including seven saves in the second half, posting a shutout.
Offensively, Kady Waits led the team with five points from four goals and an assist, while Teagan Laier had two goals and two assists. Gabi Larkin and Abbey Smentowski got past the Lourdes keeper three times while Ashley Sherry, Kaylee Patterson and Bella Van Buren added to the mix as well.
While the Blue Devils started with a quick goal in the first 30 seconds of the game from Van Buren, Lourdes found some steam and scored back to back goals, putting them into a lead for the first and last time. Following was eight straight goals from the Blue Devils until Lourdes got past Coggins in net again. They ended the half with one more goal after three Blue Devil responses, to put themselves down 12-4, but that would be their last goal of the game.
Lawrence Tech slowed down in the second, only scoring five goals, controlling the game to a slower pace, cruising into a 17-4 win.
The Blue Devils travel to Pontiac, Mich. on Saturday to play Rochester College (Mich.) at Ultimate Soccer Arenas, where the game is set to start at 1 p.m.
