After not being able to find the back of the net and take possession of the ball, the Blue Devils lost to the Cougars (4-1-0) in a definitive 5-0 loss, who were led by Bethany Balcer's two goals. Three other cougars scored as well to push the win over LTU.
LTU (3-3-0) was outshot by SAU 28-5 throughout the entire game, and was scored on four of the five times in the first half. However, they held their own for the first 20 minutes of the game, with goalie Rebecca Almandoz keeping the numerous shots at bay during the first half, making several great saves, totaling four on the afternoon, with aid from teammate Alayne Nyboer repeatedly trying to keep up with her opponent's speed. Once SAU found their rhythm, though, they did not lay off, scoring the first two goals less than a minute apart from each other. The second two goals that came later in the first half were also only a minute and a half apart.
In the second half, Renee Anderson came in for Almandoz, before getting pummeled with more shots from Spring Arbor. LTU held them to only one goal in the second half, despite their 14 chances on goal. The Blue Devils also went from only attempting one shot on net in the first half to getting four shots off on net in the second. Nyboer had two of those five chances, with Laura Silverman, Lauren Wasiak and Sarah Trapp all taking one shot on the Cougar goalies. Lawrence Tech also received 11 fouls to Spring Arbor four.
The Blue Devils travel back home to face Olivet College (Mich.) this Sunday, September 16, where the game is set to start at 3 p.m. here at the LTU Athletic Field.
