The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team fell 3-1 due to an early first half surge by the Cornerstone University (Mich.) Golden Eagles on Wednesday, October 30th. They now prepare for a match to close their season against the #3 team in the nation, UNOH, at home on Saturday where kick off is set for 4:30 p.m.. Following the immediate close of the game, the Blue Devils will honor their senior class.
The game started off quick, with Cornerstone (13-4-0, 7-3-0) scoring in the first 14 minutes of play following a foul from LTU. It was Alexys Riksen from a header. Then, six minutes later, it was Riksen again, moving the game to 2-0. Continuing her hat trick night, Riksen found the net again at the 30 minute mark.
LTU (10-6-0, 6-4-0) got on the board following a penalty from the Cornerstone side, with Mather taking the penalty kick and pushing it past the goalie on the far left side at the 42 minute mark.
LTU was right with the Eagles for the majority of the game, having six corner kick opportunities, and going 8-11 in shots to Cornerstone. In net, Rebecca Almandoz had five saves in the first half while Renee Anderson came into to close, grabbing two saves in the second.
Next up will be a tough match against University of Northwestern Ohio. The Blue Devils will honor the years of Sydne Everts, Randi Jannette, Madison Greenlee, Madison Smith, Alayne Nyboer, and Aiyana Reid, the seniors of their team.
