SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) University on Saturday, February 24 at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The Blue Devils started the match with a two-point advantage since the Cardinals withdrew one doubles and one singles flight.
In doubles flights, the duo of Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) fell, 8-4, to Maddie Miller and Joanne Gao at court-one. Samantha Kohn(SO/Dearborn, Mich.) and Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) dropped their doubles set, 8-6, against Taylor McLaughlin and Maya Campbell.
In singles action, Vega-Hazas fell after splitting sets (2-6, 6-4, 4-10) at court-one. Maria Alvarez (JR/Ames, La Coruna, Spain) fell 6-1,6-0 at fifth flight. At court-three, Kohn lost 6-0, 6-2, while Mateos fell for a double 6-1 at second flight. Weber dropped her match 6-3, 7-5 at court-four.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Wednesday, February 27 against Wayne State (Mich.) University at 1 p.m. in Detroit, Mich.
