SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Kristi Doherty of the Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team was name Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Setter of the Week for her performance at the 2019 GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Doherty led the Blue Devils (3-1) in assists with 153 including a weekend high 45 against McPherson (Kan.) on Saturday morning. She added 27 kills, 15 aces, and 65 digs as she had a match high five aces against Peru State to kickoff the weekend.
"Her senior leadership and calmness which is contagious for our team," Lawrence Tech Head Coach Ed Ruhl said. "The first match we were passing really nervously and giving the other team a lot of opportunities, Kristi was able to stabilize the team with good choices, bettering the ball and making unreal athletic sets to allow us to get our first win for the season...several coaches said she was the best setter in the gym this weekend and even though I didn't see every team in the gym, I agree based on what I saw."
Lawrence Tech returns to the court on Friday, September 6 when they head to the Graywolves Classic in Sylvania, Ohio hosted by Lourdes (Ohio) University. The Blue Devils face West Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. followed by Grace (Ind.) at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Blue Devils close out the weekend with a 9 a.m. match against Shawnee State (Ohio) University.
