Women's Volleyball Cracks the Top 25 NAIA Coaches' Poll for First Time in Program History

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.—The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team cracked into the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll for the first time this season. The Blue Devils came in at No. 23 in the most recent release of the poll on October 23rd. In the previous poll, the Blue Devils were receiving votes, but had not yet received enough to make the top 25.

It has been a historic season thus far for the women's volleyball team. They currently hold an overall record of 21-2 and are undefeated in conference play (11-0). The Blue Devils have won 19 of their last 20 games, and have only dropped one set over their last five matches.

It is a team led by Zakia Hunt and Kristi Doherty. Hunt has amassed 258 kills on the year and has a hitting percentage of .366, which has her ranked 6th in the NAIA. Doherty leads the team in assists with 751 and in service aces with 57. Her total of 751 assists has her ranked 48th in the NAIA, but her 57 service aces are good enough for the 4th best in the country. It is also a team that stresses defense. The team seems to consistently put themselves in good position to make plays. The Blue Devils rank 4th in digs per game with 20.11. Leading the Blue Devils in this defensive statistic is Shelby Rasch with 342 digs on the season.

The Blue Devils will be in action at the Don Ridler Field House on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:30pm. This will be a conference match vs. Lourdes (Ohio.). They will also be in action on Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th, with both matches being on the road. They will face off with Aquinas (Mich.) College on Friday at 7:00pm, and then on Saturday morning with Cornerstone (Mich.) University at 11:00am.
