SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's cross country team completed its 2018 season by placing the highest they ever have in the WHAC conference meet. They came in at 7th place among 11 teams on Saturday, November 4. The highest they have placed ever before was 8th.
Coming in first out the Blue Devil team was Marissa Bradley (SR/Haslett, Mich.), who ran in her final race on Saturday and placed 40th with a time of 20:19. Right behind her was Hailey Catania(FR/Clarkston, Mich.) who finished 46th and will be the fastest returner with a time of 20:51. Close behind Hailey was Michelle Meister (SO/Hoffman Estates, Ill) who crossed the line in 52nd with a time of 21:07. Only seconds later came Monica Ellicott (SR/Caro, Mich.) in 57th with a time of 21:19, also crossing the line marking her last race as a Blue Devil. Emily Gandolfi (JR/McBain, MI) finished at 69th in the same minute with a time of 21:54. Kelsey Catania (JR/Clarkston, Mich.) rounded up the Blue Devils coming in 101st place with a time of 25:45.
Coach Eric Green is proud of the team and its accomplishment. Though the race was competitive, LTU tied with University of Michigan-Dearborn but won the tie breaker with a faster overall time and their 6th woman, Kelsey, running faster than their 6th runner. Coach Green stated "I was really hoping we could of placed 6th or better at the meet but 7th is our best ever place. It would also been nice to have Marissa qualify but this was the most competitive meet of the year with four WHAC teams ranked in the top 30 in the nation." Green and the team also lose captains Marissa and Monica. Green commented on the topic with "Both have been the solid core of the ladies team for the past four years. Their leadership will be missed. But they have laid the foundation for a positive future for the ladies cross country teams at LTU."
