The Lawrence Technological University men's and women's cross country teams travel to Ohio this weekend to run in the Otterbein University Invite. The race starts in the morning for both teams. This is the second race of the season for both teams.
The men's team ran with impressive times last weekend at the Bethany Invite in West Virginia. While placing 9th out of 22 teams in their division, for some of their top runners, it was their first collegiate race. Freshman Nolan McGahan led the team placing 9th out of 218 other runners with a time of 27:09 time at the 8k distance. Also placing well was a returner in the form of Alex Towianski with a time of 28:21, placing 34th. This just shows how much mere seconds can come between a top 10 and a top 50 finish. Rounding up the top 50 finish was another freshman in his first race with a time of 28:47, Ethan Rozanski. Rozanski finished 46th overall.
On the women's side, another freshman stood out this year. Darbey Johntson made her debut finishing 58th out of 202 other runners with a 26:09 time at the 5k distance. The other runner for LTU was Michelle Meister who placed 99th with a time of 27:32. For the ladies, only Johntson and Meister were able to make the trip down to West Virginia due to injuries and family conflicts. Despite this, getting the first run of the season under their belts for the two Blue Devils will help them this weekend in Ohio.
Following this race, the Blue Devil teams will travel to run in New Boston, Mich. in the Warrior Classic on September 21st.
