Blue Devils comeback but fall in closing 17 seconds

The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team played host to the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University on Jan. 28. The Blue Devils overcame a 14-point deficit in the closing eight minutes but fell, 63-60.

It was a tight first half with both teams shooting 12-of-26 from the floor. Cornerstone's extra three-pointer in the first 20 minutes gave the Eagles a 30-27 lead heading into the break.

Lawrence Tech fell behind by 14 points before Co-captain Jackie Hood (Lake Orion, MI) took over, sparking a 12-3 scoring run of her own, making it a five-point game. A layup by Hali Butler (Fairport, OH) tied the game at 58 points with 43 seconds remaining. Cornerstone responded with a clutch three-pointer by Kelsey Adamski.

With LTU down by three points with 18 seconds remaining, Butler was sent to the free throw line. Butler knocked down both free throws, forcing the Blue Devils to foul on the inbound pass. Kelsey Adamski would seal the game for the Golden Eagles burying both free throws.

Hood scored a game-high 21 points, including 16 in the second half. Butler finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Center Jazmine Brown (Macomb, MI) added six points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes of action.

Adamski came off the bench for Cornerstone to finish with 21 points, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Kayleigh Hammond contributed with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Blue Devils are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 30 looking to upset Davenport - currently ranked 11th in the country. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
