In the last meeting between the two programs, then No. 19-ranked Siena Heights University (Mich.) cruised to a decisive 74-38 victory on Feb. 1, 2014. The Blue Devils finished the game shooting a season low 16 percent from the field, while the Saints shot a blistering 53 percent. Siena Heights scored 43 second half points to notch their 18th win of the season and eventual second place WHAC finish. Hali Butler (JR/Fairport Harbor, OH) led LTU with 11 points and eight rebounds on the afternoon.
Last Time Out:
In the Blue Devils last outing, Aquinas College (Mich.) erased a ten-point second half deficit to win, 70-62. It is only the second loss this season the Blue Devils have suffered when leading at halftime. Nevertheless, the Saints of Aquinas generated 22 points off 20 LTU turnovers to complete the comeback. Hali Butler finished with a team-high 14 points, while Allison Kitchen (SO/Clio, MI) added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Scouting the Saints:
No. 17-ranked Siena Heights travels to Southfield coming off a 2-1 mark following the New Year. The Saints are now 13-4 (8-2) after beginning the season with six straight wins. Sierra Calhoun, last season's NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, leads the team with 17 points per game, while collecting 5.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Guard Morgan Warfield is the Saints three-point threat, attempting 131 of the team's 266 triples.
Boxing Out:
Coach Pinkowski has put an emphasis on controlling the glass this year and the young Blue Devils have answered the challenge. LTU is currently first in the WHAC - 15th in the NAIA in defensive rebounding, averaging 31 rebounds per game. On the offensive end, Lawrence Tech ranks fourth in the conference with 13 rebounds per game.
