No. 25 LTU defeats Indiana Tech 61-54 as Butler reaches 1,000 career points

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Hali Butler (SR/Fairport Harbor, OH) led the way for No. 25-ranked Lawrence Technological University (LTU) as she finished with 25 points in 61-54 win at Indiana Tech on Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind. Butler reached the 1,000 career point mark in the win, doing so with her final two free throws of the game. She is the first LTU women's basketball player to reach the milestone.

Lawrence Tech (10-1, 7-1 WHAC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with Butler hitting two jumpers and a free throw to open the game. Indiana Tech cut the lead to 5-4, but the Blue Devils extended its lead to 14-6 with 3:06 left in the first quarter. The Warriors went on a mini 5-0 run to close the first and cut the lead to three, 14-11.

Indiana Tech (10-6, 6-2 WHAC) opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 20-14 lead with 7:19 left in the half, however LTU chipped away at the lead with a 7-2 run to close the half down one, 22-21.

The Blue Devils tied the game at 30-30 with 5:40 left in the third quarter and took the lead for good with a pair of Nicole Buckingham (FR/Saginaw, Mich.) free throws. LTU closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a six point (39-33) lead into the final quarter.

Lawrence Tech closed the game out as they made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 51 seconds to seal the 61-54 win.

Buckingham finished the game with a career high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting including 7-of-8 at the line. Butler finished with a double-double, 25 points and 11 rebounds. Christina Henry (JR/Lansing, Mich.) added five points and eight rebounds.

Lawrence Tech shot just 30 percent in the first half, but recovered in the second half shooting 47.8 percent to finish the game at 37.7 percent. The Blue Devils held the Warriors to 38.5 percent from the field and outrebounded them 40-28 including 11-5 on the offensive boards.

LTU is back in action on Wednesday, January 6 when they head to University of Michigan - Dearborn for WHAC action starting at 5:30 p.m.
