SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team hosts University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday, November 16 to open the WHAC season in Southfield, Mich. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
Lawrence Tech (2-2) are coming off a 1-1 road trip that saw them defeat No. 13 Purdue (Ind.) University Northwest 72-71 and fell at No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan University 57-43 on Saturday, Nov. 12. Kaitlyn Smith (FR/Holly, Mich.) is leading the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game while Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) is tops in rebounds averaging six per game. Kitchen also leads the team in steals with three per game. Cherilyn Banas (SO/Oxford, Mich.) is averaging a team high four assists per game while Danielle Hanson (FR/East Lansing, Mich.) has a team high three blocks.
The Blue Devils rank 15th in the NAIA in three-point field goals made per game (8.25) and turnover margin (6.25). LTU ranks 22nd in steals per game (11.75), 26th in total rebound defense (34.75) and assist to turnover ratio (0.952). Lawrence Tech ranks 32nd in scoring defense per game (59.0).
Northwestern Ohio (1-4) is coming off their first win of the season, a 73-51 victory at Indiana University South Bend on November 10. Shatisha Dukes and Sogona Sidibe lead the team in scoring at eight points per game while Kierra Billinglsey has a team high 12 steals. Dukes also leads the team in total rebounds (40) and blocks (8).
The Racers rank 21st in the NAIA in blocks per game (3.6), 22nd in total rebound defense (34.2) and total blocks (18). Dukes ranks 18th in the NAIA in total blocks and 20th in blocks per game. Billingsley ranks 48th in the NAIA in total blocks with five.
LTU and UNOH have met nine times with the Blue Devils holding the series lead 5-4 with 3-0 record against the Racers in 2015-16 season including a 56-44 win in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals. Sidibe scored nine points for the Racers in the loss while Maegan Branham (SR/Michigan Center, MI) and Nicole Buckingham (SO/Saginaw, Mich.) combined for 14 points and six rebounds in the win.
