[RV] Blue Devils fall at #8 Davenport, move to 4-1 in WHAC play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The [RV] Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team fell at No. 8-ranked Davenport (Mich.) University 62-55 on Saturday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich. The loss drops LTU into a three-way tie for second place in the WHAC with Indiana Tech and Concordia - Ann Arbor, all 4-1 in conference play.

Lawrence Tech (7-3, 4-1) trailed by just three points at halftime, 35-32, but Davenport was able to pull away in the third quarter, giving the Panthers a 56-46 lead heading in the final 10 minutes. The Blue Devils made just three field goals in the final quarter, outscoring Davenport 9-6, but it was not enough as the Panthers gave LTU their first conference loss of the season.

Davenport (8-1, 5-0) on a 12-3 run to take a 47-38 lead with just two and a half minutes in the third. Lawrence Tech cut it back down to six, 47-41, but that's as close as the game got after another quick spurt from DU gave the Panthers a 52-42 lead.

Lawrence Tech continued to battle, but shot 8-for-23 from the field in the third and fourth quarters combined to fall 62-55. These two team's face each other again on Saturday, January 21st in Southfield, Mich. Tip is set for 1 p.m.

Danielle Hanson (FR/East Lansing, Mich.) finished with 11 points and four rebounds while Nicole Buckingham (SO/Saginaw, Mich.) led the team in scoring with 14 points. Buckingham add six rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Cherilyn Banas (SO/Oxford, Mich.) added eight points and a team-high four assists while Maegan Branham (SR/Michigan Center, MI) and Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) added five rebounds each. Kitchen also had four steals and five points with Branham adding four points.

Courtney Murphy led the way for Davenport with a game-high 17 points and three assists with Mallory Sewell finished the game with 16 points and six rebounds while Jenna Falkenberg added a team-high nine rebounds and six points.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court Wednesday, December 7 when they host University of Michigan - Dearborn on College of Management night at Don Ridler Field House. Remember to bring non-perishable items for the annual Holiday Food Drive put on by the men's and women's baskteball programs.
