Kitchen surpasses 1,000 career points in 66-51 win over Michigan-Dearborn

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team moved to 8-3 following a 66-51 win over University of Michigan - Dearborn on Wednesday night at Don Ridler Field House. Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) reached 1,000 career points in the win, scoring her 1,000th point at the 4:03 mark of the third quarter. She now sits at 1,006 career points.

Lawrence Tech (8-3, 5-1) went 9-for-25 from the field over the first two quarters, but still managed to hold a one points lead at halftime, 27-26. Kitchen scored four of her 12 points in the opening quarter in a back-and-forth game. Hayley Walkowski (JR/Marshall, MI) added a three-pointer and Maegan Branham (SR/Michigan Center, MI) added a free-throw to give LTU the lead heading into the second quarter.

Michigan - Dearborn (3-11, 0-6) trailed by seven just over two minutes into the quarter as Walkowski and Kaitlyn Smith (FR/Holly, Mich.) combined for eight points to give the Blue Devils a 24-17 lead. The Wolverines answered with a 9-0 run to go up 26-24 with 2:23 left in the half. Christina Henry (SR/Lansing, Mich.) added three points to close the half out with a 27-26 lead.

The third quarter was all LTU as they built a 10 point lead with 2:54 on the clock. Kitchen notched her 1,000th career point with Henry and Walkowski adding a pair each to give Lawrence Tech the 43-33 lead. The Blue Devils closed the quarter out with a three from Smith as time expired to take a nine point lead into the final 10 minutes.

Lawrence Tech expanded the lead in the fourth quarter as the Blue Devils went on a 15-2 run to take a 64-42 lead with 3:51 left in the game. Michigan-Dearborn was able to battle back to within 13, but that was it as LTU won 66-51.

Five Blue Devils finished in double-figures including Henry who had a game-high 13 points to go with eight rebounds and two assists. Kitchen added 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals while Smith finished with 11 points and three assists. Nicole Buckingham (SO/Saginaw, Mich.) and Walkowski added 10 points each. Branham added seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Hope Dollarhide (FR/Dorr, Mich.) recorded three points in 13 minutes of action.

Megan Swick led the way for Michigan-Dearborn with 12 points and five rebounds while Emily Heinrich added 10 points and two rebounds in the loss.

Lawrence Tech is back on the road Saturday, December 10 when they head to Adrian, Mich. to take on Siena Heights (Mich.) University. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
