No. 18 LTU hosts No. 9 Davenport as they Battle for First Place in the WHAC

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The 18th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University (LTU) women's basketball team hosts No. 9 Davenport (Mich.) University in a battle for first-place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

Lawrence Tech (19-2, 16-2 WHAC) enter the game riding a three-game winning streak including a 64-37 win over Concordia on Saturday, February 6. Hali Butler (SR/Fairport Harbor, OH) finished with a 20 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

In the first meeting between these two top 25 teams, then-20th ranked Lawrence Tech defeated then-No. 5 Davenport 64-59. It was Lawrence Tech's first win over Davenport and its second win over a top 25 team this season. LTU is 2-0 against ranked teams this season.

Christina Henry (JR/Lansing, Mich.) leads the team in points per game at 13.1 followed by Allison Kitchen (JR/Clio, MI) at 12.9, and Butler at 12.8. Nicole Buckingham (FR/Saginaw, Mich.) is averaging 11 points per game in her last three, up 3.3 points from season average. Kitchen ranks fifth in NAIA Division II field goal percentage at 58.6 percent while Henry ranks 37th in steals per game at 2.30.

The Blue Devils are averaging 72.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 57.0 PPG. Davenport is averaging 85.9 points per game, holding its opponents to 60.7 PPG.

Lawrence Tech and Davenport rank in the top five of many WHAC statistical categories including scoring defense per game. Lawrence Tech ranks second followed by Davenport at three. In scoring offense per game Davenport ranks first with LTU ranking fourth in the conference. The Panthers (25.20) and Blue Devils (14.95) rank first and second respectively in scoring margin.

The teams rank first and second in field goal percentage offense with Davenport at 46.8 percent and LTU at 45.6 percent. Lawrence Tech ranks second in field goal percentage defense at 35.4 percent followed by Davenport at 36.5 percent. The Panthers ranks first in total rebound offense per game at 47.72 followed by LTU at 44.71. The Blue Devils rank first in total rebound defense per game at 32.00 followed by Davenport at 33.08. In total rebound margin, Davenport holds a 14.64 to 12.71 advantage as they rank first and second in the WHAC.

In NAIA Division II, Lawrence Tech ranks second in three-point field goal percentage defense (0.251), fourth in total rebound margin, sixth in total rebound defense, seventh in field goal percentage, and eighth in total rebounds per game (44.71) and scoring defense per game (57.00).

Davenport (20-5, 19-2 WHAC) is riding a three game winning streak into the game as they defeated Lourdes (Ohio) University 66-40 on Wednesday, February 3.

The Panthers rank second in NAIA Division II total assists (502), assists per game (20.08), scoring margin (25.20), and total total rebound offense (1,193). Davenport ranks third in field goal percentage, total rebound margin, and offensive rebounds per game (18.04).

Alex Law leads the team in points per game at 12.56, while Molly Babbs is tops on the boards at 6.25 rebounds per game.

Amanda Merz ranks eighth in NAIA Division II assists/turnovers ratio at 2.42 for Davenport. Merz ranks 24th in total assists (99), and 27th in assists per game (3.96).

At tonight's game, LTU Students will have a shot at $250. Each student who comes to the game will receive a raffle ticket for a chance at making a half-court shot. Also, the first 50 students who come to tonight's game will receive a free snack pack from Uncle Joe's Chicken.
