LTU falls to Aquinas 59-54 on Wednesday night

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team fell to Aquinas (Mich.) College 59-54 on Wednesday night in Southfield, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (12-10, 8-7) trailed at the half, 20-18, but a strong third quarter brought the Blue Devils to within one, 43-42 heading in the final quarter.

In the fourth, LTU went up 54-53 following a Cherilyn Banas (SO/Oxford, Mich.) two-pointer with 1:27 left in the game. Aquinas responded with a jumper to retake the lead at 55-54 with just over a minute left on the clock. The Saints added four more points over the final 25 seconds to win the game 59-54.

Aquinas (14-9, 8-7) trailed 10-3 at the half, but a strong second quarter, 17-8 gave the Saints a two-point lead at halftime.

Nicole Buckingham (SO/Saginaw, Mich.) led the way for the Blue Devils with 12 points and four rebounds while Hayley Walkowski (JR/Marshall, MI) added nine points and five rebounds. Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with four points and two assists. From the field, LTU shot just 31.9 percent compared to Aquinas' 42.3. Aquinas made four more free-throws than the Blue Devils while taking two more free throw attempts.

Lawrence Tech created nine turnovers with nine steals while the Saints made a game high 15 turnovers.

LTU is back on the court for Blaine Denning Memorial game on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. in the Don Ridler Field House. Remember to wear your white to the game as this is the "white out" game.
