SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team opens Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, November 15 in Lima, Ohio against University of Northwestern Ohio. Opening tip set for 5:30 p.m.
Lawrence Tech (4-1) enter conference play after participating in the Leah Whittaker Memorial Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University. The Blue Devils finished the weekend with a 1-1 record, defeating Robert Morris (Ill.) University 88-69 and falling to host [RV] Indiana Wesleyan 57-56.
The Blue Devils are led by Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) who averages 12.8 points per game and Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) who is averaging 12.6 PPG. Rachel Price (SO/Springboro, Ohio) leads the team in rebounds with 30 and rebounds per game at 6.0. Cherilyn Banas (JR/Oxford, Mich.) has a team high 15 assists while Price and Buckingham have six blocks each.
Lawrence Tech is holding its opponents to 53.6 PPG while they shoot just 33.7 percent from the field. The Blue Devils average 72.4 PPG, outscoring their opponents 362-268. LTU ranks 13th in NAIA Division II scoring defense per game and 15th in field goal percent defense.
Northwestern Ohio (2-3) enters the game having lost to Indiana University - South Bend 60-57 on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Racers rank 21st in NAIA Division II in total blocks with 18 and Danielle VanDyne leads the team with eight and ranks 16th in NAIA DII in total blocks and 20th in blocks per game (1.6).
Kierra Billingsley leads UNOH with 15.0 PPG and is second on the team in blocks with five. Emily Patton is second on the Racers with 13.4 PPG and 10 assists while Latoya Cuthrell has a team high 42 rebounds and averages 8.4 RPG. Cori Dickson has 20 assists on the season while averaging nine points per game.
The Racers have been outscored 355-339 through five games, a difference of 3.2 PPG - 71.0-67.8. UNOH has outrebounded their opponents 209-208 and have 96 turnovers on the season to just 32 steals.
Lawrence Tech holds a 6-5 lead in the series, but are on a one-game losing streak following a 69-62 loss on Jan. 18, 2017. The Blue Devils hold the longest win streak in the series at four, from Jan. 9, 2016-Nov. 16, 2016. The programs are tied 5-5 over their last 10 games in the series. The Blue Devils are 1-5 in Lima while holding a 5-1 record at Don Ridler Field House.
