SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team falls to Cornerstone 65-56 on an early Saturday afternoon in December at the Don Ridler Fieldhouse.
Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) was first to put LTU on the board with a two-pointer tying the game 2-2 in the 8:55 minute. The Blue Devils then kept the lead until the Golden Eagles tied the game 9-9 and ran with the lead to finish the first quarter with 14-9.
The Blue Devils trailed the Golden Eagles until they tied it at 16-16 in the second quarter with a 2-pointer form Danielle Hanson (SO/East Lansing, Mich.). The leading scorer in this half was Nicole Buckingham with 12 points.
The Golden Eagles dominated the Blue Devils by scoring 19 points in the third quarter. However, Teryn Kline (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) and Buckingham kept the game competitive with four points each in the third. The fourth quarter held the Blue Devils within points of stealing the lead being down by only seven points with 1:34 left in the game but could not get over the deficit, falling 65-56.
Lawrence Tech shot 34.5% from the field, 12-for-15 from the line, and 4-for-22 from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils fell through on the rebound 41-26. The leading scorers for the game were Kline with 18, Buckingham with 15, and Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) with 9.
Lawrence tech takes to the sky next, competing against Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida Dec. 19 at 5:00pm.
