Buckingham Scores 1,000th Point as Blue Devils Dominate Earlham 78-31

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball defeated Earlham (Ind.) College 78-31 on Saturday afternoon at Don Ridler Field House.

Lawrence Tech (13-3, 6-2) jumped out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter and ended the first half up 34-13. Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) scored 20 of her 30 points in the first half as she became the third Lawrence Tech player to surpass 1,000 career points. She joins Hali Butler ('15) and Allison Kitchen ('16) as the only players in program history to score 1,000 points or more.

The Blue Devils continued to dominate the Quakers as they outscored Earlham 15-9 in the third quarter. Lawrence Tech finished the game strong as they put up 29 points in the final stanza to seal the 78-31 win. Buckingham finished with 30 points while Kaitlyn Smith (SO/Holly, Mich.) added 12 points. Alex Ruster (SR/Warren, MI) had her best game of the season with 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

Lawrence Tech is back in action following the New Year as they take on No. 10-ranked Indiana Tech on Wednesday at Don Ridler Field House. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
