SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team defeated Siena Heights (Mich.) University 65-46 on Saturday at Don Ridler Field House.
Lawrence Tech (10-2, 6-1) trailed Siena Heights 6-2 early in the first quarter but closed the quarter with a 10-6 run to tie the game at 12-12. Kaitlyn Smith (SO/Holly, Mich.) and Teryn Kline (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) opened the second quarter with a pair of jumpers to give Lawrence Tech a 16-12 lead.
The Blue Devils opened the second quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 28-14 lead with 2:45 left in the half. The Saints cut the lead back down to nine as they scored the final five points of the quarter as LTU led 28-19 at the break. The Blue Devils shot 7-for-16 in the second quarter as they outscored the Saints 16-7 in the quarter.
Siena Heights (5-7, 3-4) Azalea Miller cut the lead to seven, 35-28 before Lawrence Tech took a 45-32 lead following a Danielle Hanson (SO/East Lansing, Mich.) three to end the third quarter. The Blue Devils opened the fourth on fire, building a 29 point lead, 64-35, with 4:19 left in the game. Lawrence Tech shot 8-for-8 from the field to open the quarter as they went on to win 65-46.
The Blue Devils shot 45.5 percent from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Lawrence Tech outrebounded the Saints 40-32. Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) finished with 26 points and eight rebounds. Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) recorded a team high 10 rebounds and four points in the win. Hanson and Kline added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Saturday, December 16 when they host Cornerstone (Mich.) University. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
