Blue Devils fall to #7 Davenport in WHAC Semifinal 76-64

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team lost in the WHAC Semifinal game to No. 7 Davenport (Mich.) University 76-64 on Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence Tech (18-13) held the early lead as they were up 14-13 after the first quarter and 29-20 with 3:12 left in the half. However, Davenport went on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to 31-28 at halftime. Nicole Buckingham (SO/Saginaw, Mich.) had a team high nine points at the break with Danielle Hanson (FR/East Lansing, Mich.) and Allison Kitchen (SR/Clio, MI) adding six points each.

The Blue Devils battled in the third quarter to take a 45-40 lead with three minutes left in the quarter, but a Davenport 7-0 run - back-to-back three's - gave the Panthers a 47-45 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Lawrence Tech missed five of their six opening shots as Davenport built its lead to 53-47 with 8:16 remaining in the game. Walkowski nailed a three with Hanson making a layup in consecutive possessions to cut the Panthers lead to three, 59-56 with 5:18 left in the game.

Hanson once again pulled the Blue Devils back within three points at 4:13, but that was as close as the Blue Devils got as LTU went 1-for-5 from the field over the next three minutes as Davenport extended the lead to 67-60 with 1:39 remaining in the game.

Davenport closed the game hitting 7-of-8 free throws to seal the 76-64 win. It was the final game between the Panthers and Blue Devils as Davenport moves to NCAA Division II starting next season.

Walkowski led the way for LTU with 18 points and six rebounds while seniors Allison Kitchen and Maegan Branham (SR/Michigan Center, MI) combined for 15 points and 12 rebounds in their final college game. Henry finished with four rebounds and a block in her last game as a Blue Devil.
