SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The 20th-ranked Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team defeated Madonna (Mich.) University 71-44 on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Don Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich.
How it Happened
The Blue Devils opened the game with an 11-0 run as Danielle Hanson had six points as Lawrence Tech jumped all over Madonna in the first quarter. LTU closed the quarter up 24-10 following a three-point shot to end the first. The Blue Devils shot 9-for-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Madonna cut the Lawrence Tech lead to seven at 26-19 with 6:13 until halftime, but the Blue Devils closed the quarter with a 10-3 run to head into the break up 37-22. The Blue Devils struggled from the field in the second quarter, but went 6-for-8 from the line to hold on to a double-digit lead at halftime.
Lawrence Tech opened the third quarter with a 18-4 run to built its lead to 55-26 as they closed the half with a 57-28 lead. The Blue Devils took its largest lead of the game to open the fourth as Kaitlyn Smith (SO/Holly, Mich.) hit a three to give LTU a 60-28 lead. LTU ended the game up 71-44.
The Blue Devils finished the game shooting 44.1 percent from the field and shot 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. Lawrence Tech held Madonna to 30.4 percent shooting from the field and forced 20 turnovers for 21 points. Rachel Price (SO/Springboro, Ohio) held Becca Sabol to 2-for-9 shooting with three blocks.
