ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The No. 20th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team defeated Rochester (Mich.) College on Saturday, January 20 74-68 in Rochester, Mich.
How it Happened
Lawrence Tech (18-4, 10-3) fell behind early as Rochester opened the game on a 9-0 run to set the tone for the opening two quarters. The Blue Devils struggled from the field in the first two quarters as they shot a paltry 19.4 percent from the field.
Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) and Cherilyn Banas (JR/Oxford, Mich.) led the team over the first two quarters with six points a piece while Teryn Kline (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) added four points off the bench.
The Blue Devils cut the lead to 43-42 to end the third quarter as Nicole Buckingham hit the jumper with 16 seconds remaining in the quarter. Rachel Price (SO/Springboro, Ohio) gave Lawrence Tech a 44-43 to open the the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils trailed by four multiple times in the fourth quarter, each time battling back to within one. They finally tied it with a Buckingham three as time expired to send the game to overtime, 60-60.
In the overtime period, it was all Lawrence Tech as they jumped out to a 65-60 lead 1:44 into the period. Teryn Kline made a three-pointer to push the lead to 71-65 with 1:25 remaining in the extra period. Kline made it an eight point game, nailing another three to give the Blue Devils a 73-65 lead with 1:04 on the clock.
The Blue Devils closed the game out 74-68 to win their 10th conference game of the season.
