SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The 19th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University Women's Basketball team towered over Lourdes (Ohio) University in an 81-59 game on Saturday afternoon.
Before the game, Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) was recognized for her four year career at Lawrence Tech. Hayley has been with the team, with over 1,000 points in her career starting in 43 games, and playing in 109 through Saturday. She will lead Lawrence Tech in the top four for most points in a career.
Lawrence Tech (23-4, 15-3) was led by Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) with 29, Hayley Walkowski with 18, and Cherilyn Banas (JR/Oxford, Mich.) with seven points. Both teams came out strong as the first quarter ended in a tie, 12-12. Opening the second quarter, Danielle Hanson (SO/East Lansing, Mich.) gave the Blue Devils the lead finishing the half 33-21.
Lawrence tech held on to the lead throughout the third quarter, with Rachel Price (SO/Springboro, Ohio) pushing it to a 10 points lead with 7:22 left in the quarter. Walkowski made it 55-38 with 8:38 left In the fourth quarter. Teryn Kline (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) pushed the lead to 20 points with a three to make it 66-46 with 4:51 on the clock. The Blue Devils went on to win the game game 81-59.
